Mapping the Treasure Hunt
A treasure hunt is one such game which I have been playing at my place from the past 3-4 months because of this pandemic. The treasure here is basically my neighbourhood or the outside world which I want to visit but am not able to do so because of the pandemic. So to fill in this empty void I actually hunted for some spaces and elements (thresholds) inside my house which will help me interact with the outside world but not at the cost of my safety. To get a step closer to nature I planted some plants in my verandah and even started having tea near the indoor grill windows while watching the trees, birds, sunrise/ sunsets, stray animals and so on which sometimes even relieved my old memories. For the social interaction terrace, online classes and video calls became my Savior. In order to avoid contact with the delivery guys we designed a small wooden table outside our house where all the parcels were kept and sanitized before bringing in. The “laari wala” who visited our building every other day to provide us with some fresh vegetables we usually didn’t prefer to go down to get them. Instead, we used to hang a cloth packet down from our verandah with the help of the thread that furthered made things easier for both of us. In all my home because of these spaces have now become my neighbourhood and world in general.
